A member of the pea family and named for its use as a dye plant as well as a broom by binding stems together. Bright flowers bloom from June-August and were once used to dye wool yellow, or green when combined with Woad pigments. Shoots are high in daidzein, a phytoestrogen, with a modulating effect, either activating or blocking estrogen receptors based on local concentrations. Useful for hormonal regulation, protection against oxidation damage, chemoprotection as well as anticancer effects on hormone related cancers such as breast and prostate. Thrives in full sun in well drained, sandy, infertile soil. Ht 2-3 inches.
