CSourced from the Indonesian cassia, Batavia cassia and the Padang cassia tree, distributed in Southeast Asia, this not only serves as the spicy culinary ingredient we are all familiar with, but is also acknowledged for its medicinal benefit. Powdered bark has been used for coughs, chest complaints, malaria, diahhrea and nausea. Oils have anti-bacterial, carminative and anti-fungal properties. It is mostly used in herbal medicine as an anti-diabetic remedy as it has been shown to enhance protein messengers involved in insulin signalling, glucose transport and anti-inflammatory action.
