Uses: Medicinal
Named after its ability to treat conjunctivitis, allergy related eye irritation as well as other eye concerns. Can be brewed into an infusion that can be used as an eyewash to soothe redness and inflammation of the eye. Early herbalists also used it internally for respiratory infections. First record of use dates back to the physician, Mattheus Sylvaticus in 1329 who recommended it for “disorders of the eye”, and later used extensively by 16th century herbalists such as Tragus, Fuchsius and Dodoens.
