(Catgut) Showy native herb with pink and yellow pea-like flowers. Grows throughout eastern and central North America but is endangered in Ontario due to habitat loss. The roots are tonic, diuretic and diaphoretic. Tea made from the roots is said to improve male potency and promote muscular development. The roots are also a source of the insecticide rotenone.
