Columbus Hops
Humulus lupulus 'Columbus'
Uses: Medicinal/Beverage/Industrial Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 3-8)
A triploid hybrid variety with very high alpha acids and oils. Has high bittering qualities, and is used primarily for dry hopping. Grows well in hot, dry climates, but is susceptible to mildew in humid areas. Its brewing characteristics are quite similar to Centennial but stronger. The aroma is strong and sharp, with a citrusy, herbal and resinous elements. Tight clustered, compact cones require careful oasting (kiln drying) and conditioning. This variety is also known as CTZ. Alpha acids 14-17%.
