Loddon Blue Lavender
Lavandula angustifolia
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal/Aromatic/Industrial Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 5-7)
A compact, low bush with a spreading growth habit. Mid-dark blue flowers and a good aroma, especially the foliage. Can be used for hedging and for craft work. Does not tolerate hot, humid weather as it can cause sudden wilting. Introduced in 1959 by Loddon Nurseries in England. Lavender must be located in full sun and planted in well drained alkaline sandy soil, ideally in a raised bed or rock garden as it is prone to root rot if conditions are too wet. Flowers June-July. Ht. 55cm/22in.
