When to Sow: Late Summer/Early Fall Ease of Germination: Difficult/Special Treatment Required
(Fernleaf biscuitroot) This member of the carrot family was an important remedy among First Nations people who considered it to be a universal panacea, especially for colds, flu, asthma and other respiratory complaints. Studies have shown that it has potent antiviral, antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and it has immune-building properties. There is evidence that it is effective for HPV, HSV and HIV. Also traditionally used for venereal disease, rheumatism, and wounds. It grows throughout western North America from Canada to California and New Mexico. It is a slow germinator, taking as many as 12 months to germinate. For best results sow outside in fall.
CAUTION: Some sensitive individuals may develop a hive-like rash which is benign and painless, and clears after treatment.
