Oregano Verde
Origanum vulgare virens
Uses: Culinary/Medicinal Duration: Perennial (hardy in zones 5-8)
When to Sow: Spring/Anytime Ease of Germination: Easy
(Spanish marjoram; Moroccan oregano) A close relation to Greek oregano but charmingly more delicate and refined. Versions of it can be found in Morocco, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores, and throughout much of Spain and Portugal. Our seeds are from Andalusia, in southern Spain, where the herb is gathered to season traditional salmorejo, a gazpacho-like cold soup, and classics such as hearty puchero stew, pincho moruno grilled pork, and the marinated fried fish cazón en adobo. This oregano has a nice floral and herbal touch that makes it a little less hot and spicy compared to the more flamboyant Greek variety. Easy to grow perennial for any sunny well-drained location. Ht. 35cm.
