(P. patchouli) Easy to grow and adored for its distinctive woody and earthy aroma used extensively in perfumery, appearing in many famous perfumes such as Arpege, Tabu, Miss Dior, Opium, Paloma and more, adding sensual and warm notes! A tropical shrub that will happily thrive in rich soil in a shady part of the garden for the summer. Spikes of pale lavender blossoms are even more aromatic than the leaves! Was used historically to ward off insects such as bed bugs and moths and in fact, was incorporated into Indian cashmere rugs and scarves during travel to keep the moths away. Used in Chinese herbalism to treat nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, colds and headaches. Used in Japan and Malaysia as an antidote for snake bites and healing wounds. A strong tissue re generator that prevents scarring when used topically. This along with its antibacterial properties give it applications for eczema, dermatitis, irritated skin as well as fungal and bacterial infections.
