Orange Habanero Chile Pepper
Capsicum chinense 'Habanero'
Uses:
Culinary/Medicinal
Duration:
Annual
When to Sow:
Spring
Ease of Germination:
Easy
Like others in the Capsicum-chinese group, it is no surprise that the Habanero has quite a kick as one of the hottest peppers in the world, at 100K-350K Scoville units - only topped by the Ghost Pepper, Trinidad Scorpion, Scotch Bonnet, Red Savina and ultimately the Carolina Reaper! That being said, it simultaneously offers a rich citrus flavour profile to your cooking and is especially appreciated in hot sauces and salsas. Sourced from South America and appreciated worldwide. Smaller than other hot peppers, they will appear green and transition to a fiery orange as they mature. Start seeds 8 weeks before last frost and plant in well drained slightly acidic soil in full sun. Must maintain moisture as they are not tolerant to dry conditions.
