Broad, waxy and variegated leaves make the yucca plant quite an impressive statement in the garden! Produces spectacular, towering spikes of creamy white, bell shaped flowers! Native to the southwestern United States, it thrives in full sun and well drained soil as an indoor houseplant in zones under 5. Not to be confused with “Yuca” which is eaten as a root vegetable, this variety is more appreciated for its edible blossoms and fruit. Seeds were once used by Native Americans to medicate minor skin irritations. Roots contains 2% saponin, a soapy substance valuable in shampoos and leaves a fine sheen to hair. Easy to use: chopped roots are soaked in water and stirred to a lather. Up to 20 feet depending on growing conditions.
