Di Sicilia Violetto Cauliflower
Brassica oleracea 'Di Sicilia Violetto'
Duration: Annual
When to Sow: Spring Ease of Germination: Easy
Traditional cauliflower, or cavolfiore, of eastern Sicily, particularly in the area of Catania. The compact heads turn to a beautiful violet in autumn. The colour is due to the accumulation of anthocyanins which when cooked turn to a rich green. Raw or cooked, the sweet mild taste is squisito! Even after the main head is cut it keeps on producing numerous side shoots that are just as tasty. This is an heirloom that will easily become a garden favourite. Typically planted in the summer for late fall harvest, and in milder areas it will often come back to produce more shoots in the spring. 100 days.
