Saskatchewan Rainbow Corn
Zea mays 'Saskatchewan Rainbow'
Duration:
Annual
When to Sow:
Spring
Ease of Germination:
Easy
A rare heirloom flint corn from Saskatchewan that goes back many generations. Old timers still call it "squaw corn" and remember making a porridge out of it during the cold winter months. The stalks are very short, only 75-90cm (2.5-3ft) high, and the small 10cm (4") multicoloured cobs are strikingly beautiful. This corn can be roasted and then added to salads, and young ears can be roasted or boiled. Also excellent as an autumn decoration and sells well at farmers markets. 95 days.
