      Sowing rate: 1.5-3 kg/ha (direct), 0.2-0.6kg/ha (indirect).   Planting: direct sowing not recommended because seeds are slow to germinate and seedlings are slow to establish. Sow in seedflats 20 weeks before field spring planting. Germination can be enhanced by exposing seedflat to 24-27°C for 1 week and then lower to 18°C for germination. Where rosemary is not hardy growers dig up plants and overwinter in cool greenhouses. Named cultivars must be grown from cuttings; seed only available for standard species.   Field spacing: 90cm between rows x 25-50cm within rows.   Yield: fresh herb 2000kg/ha (years 2-20).   Pests: no data   Diseases: root rot.   Buyers want: dried leaf minimum volatile oil 1.2%, maximum foreign matter 10%, maximum woody stems 2%, maximum ash 7%.  
  Sowing rate: 10-15g/1000 plants.   Planting: sow in seedflats 22 weeks before sale in 10cm pots.   Seeds to finished plugs: 12 weeks.   Plugs to saleable plants: 10 weeks.   Pests: whitefly, scale, mealybug   Diseases: powdery mildew.
