Coriander Seeds Need to Be Roasted Before Use?

I’m wondering if you could help answer my question on coriander seeds. I normally grow coriander and let the seeds dry on the stalks. I then harvest them and use them in winter by simply grinding the seeds. However, I have recently read that the seeds should be roasted before grinding. Is the roasting necessary?

Coriander seeds do not need to be roasted before use. Just dry them thoroughly to make sure that excess moisture is removed before storing them dry in a jar or plastic container. It is important to drive off the excess moisture before storage otherwise the seeds will go mouldy. Sometimes, experts suggest using an oven set at the lowest temperature for 5-10 minutes to drive off lingering moisture just before storing seeds, but do not leave in the heat for too long or the flavour will be lost.
