What can I use for energy without getting side effects?

Lack of energy may have an underlying cause, which can be determined by blood tests and diagnosed by your doctor.

When there is no specific underlying cause, herbs used to increase energy are:

* Ginseng - increases immunity, enhances mental and physical performance, lifts mood. Not to be used in high blood pressure, pregnancy or hyperactivity. Not to be taken with coffee. Should not be used for longer than one month without a break.

* Gotu Kola - similar effect to Ginseng. Not to be used in pregnancy or epilepsy. Should not be used for more than 6 weeks without a break.

* Damiana (Turnera diffusa) - generally used in weakness and exhaustion to increase performance

In your diet, oatmeal provides nutrients which are stimulating to the metabolism. The addition of hot spices such as Cayenne increase blood circulation to improve energy.
