Do any herbs benefit someone who has a hypothyroid?

Daniel Mowrey, in his book "Proven herbal Remedies" (available from Richters), recommends a formula containing kelp, gentian, saw palmetto, cayenne and irish moss to help strengthen and maintain the thyroid gland. Gentian root, for example, supplies bitter principles that are known to normalize the function of the thyroid.
