I am trying to find out, for my father who is 58 years old and has high blood pressure, if there is a natural herb he can take for allergies that won’t affect his high blood pressure. We live in Florida and the pollen is really bad here.

It is best to take a combination of herbs both for allergy relief and to strengthen the body’s systems to avoid allergic reactions. It is ideal to start taking these herbs a month before the allergy season starts. The herbal combination should include herbs that are anti-inflammatory, immune system regulating, antihistamine, anticattarhal and healing to the mucous membranes.

A useful herbal combination is Stinging Nettle, Plantain (Plantago lanceolata of P. major), Eyebright, Elderflower, Goldenrod and Wild Indigo. These herbs can be taken as teas or tinctures.

Anti-allergy herbs to avoid in high blood pressure are Ephedra and Licorice. Garlic has the potential of thinning the blood, so should be taken in moderation if your father is taking blood thinning medication.
