Catmint to Help Sleep?

I just planted some catmint last year. A friend says she makes tea out of it and it helps her sleep. What are some other things I can use it for? If I do use it in food, will I be watching my guests nod off?

Catmint, also called catnip (Nepeta cataria), is a gentle nerve relaxant. It does not "put" one to sleep, rather, it relaxes the nerves to allow one to sleep. Catmint is not generally used in food. Please see the item "Human Uses for Catnip" on the Q&A section of our website www.richters.com:
