Gentian in Cosmetics?

I recently saw a facial cleanser with gentian in it. Can you please tell me its purpose in a face care product?

Gentian, Gentiana lutea, is used in herbal medicine for digestive purposes. Because of its bitter taste, it stimulates the liver and pancreas. Externally, gentian is cooling and anti-inflammatory. Presumably it is used for these purposes in cosmetics.
