A very good friend and co-worker of mine if fighting with breast cancer. She has had treatments and surgery and all was clear. Now they told her that it’s back and terminal. Many lumps (tumors) have been found in her glands. I know of another friend of mine that beat lung cancer and is healthy today simply by an Alkaline Diet. My question to you, is what herbs or vitamins should this lady be on to help fight this thing? I believe that cancer can be beat! Please let me know, I must do something for this lady!!

It is important that your friend has a oncologist as a primary caregiver. Complementary therapies have a history of being helpful as well and it is important that she consult a holistic practitioner who has experience with cancer. It is ideal when all practitioners involved can work together for the sake of the patient for best results.

A cancer treatment protocol should be a highly individualized plan. Different cancers and different treatments respond differently for everyone. This is part of the reason why cancer can be so deadly. There is no one treatment plan that works for everyone. However, we also know that a healthy immune system is in most cases extremely important in determining how well someone comes through it or not. Therefore, anything that is going to improve the immune system is very important.

Breast cancer is essentially a cancer in the lymph system. And the most important system for determining a healthy immune system is this lymph system. The reasons are numerous but to give you the gist of it, it helps the body remove toxins and other matter that can cause illnesses. This lymph system can be "stimulated" and "cleansed" in a number of ways. Exercise - both passive and active is important. The very process of moving and working the muscles is also pushing and pumping the lymph system. An excellent form of exercise that is both passive and active is jumping on a rebounder/trampoline for at least 10 minutes a few times per day. Hot and cold alternating showers is another way.

The Alkaline Diet has been helpful for some people with various cancers. I believe the main reason for this is because it is a diet whereby one is simply eating healthier as much more vegetables and fruits are being consumed. It has also been suggested that by keeping the body in a more alkaline vs. acidic state also inhibits cancer growths. Although I do not believe this has been completely substantiated by research, some evidence is suggesting this to be true. Essentially, a diet that is low in processed and refined foods as well as inflammatory foods such as the wrong fats, is important. Anti-oxidant supplements such as Vit A,C, E as well as Vit D have also been used with cancer. Good diet and digestion is more important than just taking some supplements. Hippocrates first said, let foods be your medicine.

Some herbs that have a history of use with breast cancer are wild violet, burdock root, echinacea, red clover, astragalus, pokeroot, nettles and figwort. Pokeroot oil applied topically as a poultice has also be effective. Mushrooms such as reishi and other ganoderma mushrooms, shitake, maitaki and others have been studied and shown to be extremely effective at reducing the cancer as well as building up the immune system.
