Lack of Concentration in School

I’m interested in obtaining any herbal meds that can assist my 6th grade son with concentration. I continue to receive reports from teachers that my son is easily distracted and cannot seem to focus on his assignments. One teacher informed me 2/20 that she teaches my son in the a.m. and p.m. She stated that she notices that my child cannot seem to focus in the p.m. I need help. I refuse to take him to his primary and have him labelled.

In my experience in my practice blood sugar regulation with your son’s age group is the single most critical aspect that affects concentration. The reason for this is due to the changes that are taking place hormonally are also affecting the blood sugar regulation as reproductive hormones and blood sugar regulating hormones are very closely linked. It is important that your son eats a good breakfast that is comprised of complex carbohydrates, fats and protein. One needs to avoid simple carbohydrates completely. This would be white flour and white sugar food items. A sample breakfast could be stove top rolled oats for oatmeal, with flax seed oil, cinnamon and freshly ground nuts and seeds added. This will help to sustain your son’s blood sugar levels until his first snack break at mid morning. At that time he will then require another good snack such as plain yogurt, with fresh fruit and nuts and seed added to it or whole grain crackers with almond butter and a piece of fresh fruit. Avoid fruit drinks and sugary drinks and snacks. Again for lunch be sure he is getting a combination of protein, complex carbohydrates and fat.

Bitter and calming herbs can also be used to help regulate blood sugar levels. A herbal blend such as dandelion, chamomile, fennel and scullcap can be effective.

I am not suggesting that your son has ADHD but often times one needs to address the nervous system for lack of concentration in the same way that one addresses ADHD. I suggest that you go to the following link for more information and help in this regard:
