Books on Herbs

I plan on growing almost all herbs available in your catalog in our greenhouse, around garden, and in flower beds.

Is there a book to inform me what flowers and herbs good to plant around a garden and in flower beds to protect from bugs and varments?

You are referring to what is commonly called "companion planting" where herbs and other plants are interplanted to help ward off pests and to enhance growth. While there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that such interplantings work, hard scientific data proving the phenomenon have proven elusive. Nevertheless, the classic on the subject is "The Bug Book" by Helen and John Philbrick (Storey Communications, Pownal, Vermont).

Also, a book on gardening that will inform me what herbs to group together in like soil conditions (such as moist soil or acidic soil, full sun or partial sun, etc)??

The one book that provides the greatest amount of cultural information on the herbs in our catalogue is Deni Bown’s "Encyclopedia of Herbs & Their Uses". This book has hardiness, soil and sun requirements, heights, spreads (how much space each will require), and much more. We find that it is the most useful book for planning your garden layout and design. It also has some information on how to plant a garden. This book is available from Richters.
