Bilberry

It was a pleasure today to find your website. Are your dried bilberries organic? We are most interested in them for medicinal purposes: glaucoma prevention.

Yes, all of our dried herb products are either organically grown or wildcrafted. The only exceptions, and there are only a handful of them, are those marked with a "not GP" designation. Generally, these "not GP" herbs are those that are not used for culinary or medicinal purposes, but for aromatic purposes such as potpourris.

Are bilberries easily grown? We live in Northern New Jersey (USA).

Bilberries are difficult to grow from seeds. They are slow to germinate and they are slow to grow to maturity. They need special acidic soil conditions. However, once established in the right soil, they are very hardy and need little care.

Another thought: can one purchase bilberry plants from your company? These would be replanted in our garden.

As of 2001, we do not have plants available for sale. We are trying to build up supplies for sale, but we do not know yet when we will be able to offer them to the public. It is challenge for us because we do not have the ideal conditions for bilberries in our greenhouses and nursery.
